The Adventures of Fripp

  Apparently there are very loud fireworks going off. I’m fast asleep because I can’t hear them but Nix said they are very loud. She was able to watch the ones our neighbours were letting off from our bedroom but she said they were lighting up the whole bungalow and she knew I’d be scared by the flashing lights if I woke up so she’s closed the blinds now. We are due to go out soon so I hope they’ve stopped by then. Be brave my fellow Beardies, soon be over 🙏 Last night we went for a walk round the graveyard. It’s the ‘churchyard’ actually but I thought I’d add a little atmosphere to the blog 🙂 It’s quite dark but it’s not really scary, Nix said the fireworks made her jump more.  You know Nix was going to leave me at home this morning when she went for communion because it’s only half an hour.   Life’s a funny old thing isn’t it, one day you’re chasing squirrels and the next you’re sleeping all day. Nix and I lay in for a while in the mornings now and we both quite like it. I think Nix will go on her own to communion tomorrow morning as it only lasts half and hour and I don’t really want to have to get in the car if I don’t have to…I’d rather be here asleep in my new bed.  Speaking of my new bed which is very nice by the way, Nix had an email from a very nice lady called Linda from the bed company. She explained that they are very small company etc and she said she’d love to know what Nix thought about the bed and did I like it etc. Nix wrote a really nice email back and sent some photographs and then this morning we got another email asking exactly the same thing only with slightly different wording from the same person.  Do you know what my favourite time in church is? It’s when the service has ended and everyone’s left and Nix is just doing what she has to do and a couple of the ladies always come and sit with me to keep me company until Nix comes back. No one asks them to, they just do it because they like me 🙂 This afternoon as planned, we have been round to Kay‘s for a girly afternoon. I went to sleep, it was all women, about 10 of them. There was lots of food which I knew nothing about because I was asleep but I woke up just in time to see it all disappearing. Nix did save me a little bit of smoked salmon though 😋 We were planning to to walk home but decided to drive as it was so cold and foggy. Nix was completely legal of course but she had drunk one Bucks Fizz and we all know that she’s never very good after a drink.  Another quiet day today, I am quite getting used to them. I did get in the car earlier because Nix had to go down to the church to sort something out with the sound system. She had intended to leave me here but I’m not stupid, as soon as she was ready to go I was up and awake 🙂 After she had done her thing we went for a short walk along the beach which was very nice and to be honest, the shorter walks suit me better these days.  Oh yes, guess what, my new bed arrived last night. Nix was really beginning to worry that it might be another ‘sweater’ incident, but actually it’s a really nice bed. It wasn’t cheap so it should be but Nix says you don’t always get what you pay for. My bed is made from…’sustainable, eco-friendly or 100% post-consumed recycled materials’ whatever that means but Nix says it’s a good thing.  Gosh it’s quiet isn’t it, Nix and I have just been lazing around all day. We did go to the park today and although the back of the car is really really comfortable now, I’m not so keen on getting in and out of it. I think I’m beginning to prefer just going for a walk round by where we live so I think we probably won’t go anywhere in the car now except to Church on a Sunday and the odd special walk. Nix says that I can stay at home on a Tuesday morning communion because it’s only half an hour and I could be asleep at home. It’s a shame really after she put all that vet bed in the back of the car and it is very, very comfortable. My new bed is arriving today and also a new coat for Nix. She got a Marks and Spencer gift voucher and so she bought the coat in the sale. Thanks to Nix’s friends Yvonne and George for making her a very happy lady.  I have done absolutely nothing today which has been quite nice but only for today because I do like to get around and see people and places 🙂 I slept for most of the day and I didn’t want to go out until this afternoon which is unusual for me. I’m not eating brilliantly either but I feel okay and everything is working as it should, just that I’m quite tired.  We had our usual walk on the beach this morning and this afternoon we just walked over the bridge into town and we went round the churchyard which I like to do. We are home now and I am going back to bed, feeling quite tired today. Nix said it might be because I’ve had quite a few treats 🫢 Nix has eaten quite a bit of chocolate and she feels tired so she just assumes it’s the same for moi 🙂 Only just over a week until my 15th birthday.   I’ve had to wake Nix up to write this blog so don’t expect too much… We’ve had a lovely day at Jackie’s next door. This was after a couple of false starts where Nix left something important at home, like my bed. I would have slept on Jackie’s rug but I must say it was very nice to have my own bed there and I slept for most of the day.  Poor Barney still wasn’t very well but he joined us for lunch from his bedroom…via Zoom 🙂 He did miss me opening my presents which was a shame because I got lots of things in my own Christmas bag. I got my own dog-elicious mince pies and a toy and some turkey treats too. Nix got a calendar with some of her favourite bible verses in it and also a lovely ornament to hang on the Christmas tree but I think we’ll hang it on the wall when Christmas is over.  We now have nothing to do for quite a few days so I think we might go for some special walks as it’s not going to be raining for once and maybe Nix will get some nice photos of me 🙂
